hard way combines a psychedelic club groove with a low rent Sticky Fingers texture, and it's recorded on a 4-track cassette, with some digital editing. Some of where hard way comes from: being Joey, a while back, she was in a one car accident, crawled through late night countryside with a shattered leg, and passed out. It's also based on stories of stepfathers, and the inner visual fantasy life of the sufferer, including visions/memories of: Joey's friend April, who has a sweet ride and a third eye (not literally), the Japan nuclear disaster, drinking in San Diego, fooling yourself to benefit of no one, Dysfunction, the Las Vegas desert, attempts at sex, an image of war/peace, end/rebirth. (Although, there were strange bees hatching out of a wood bench, inside the house we worked).
lyrics
Hard Way c 2012 kingdom of priests
Fingers are dirty, eyes are weird.
Reach out your hand and touch me.
Radiation roller coaster.
Margarita cotton candy, totally free.
Baby, you are going crazy.
Baby, you are flipping me out.
Live life, the hard way.
Rosebuds from a hornet’s nest.
Soft pink blossoms on the dead.
Live once, die twice.
If you’re gonna hit it, better hit it right.
Money changes your mind.
Sleeping on the ground in the desert
Everybody getting high.
Do we know how to make love?
Live life, the hard way.
These memories like snowflakes
That we will all be safe again.
Each drop is surrounded, glistening
As it echoes my true name.
Live life. The hard way.
